Hello reader,

I am Luigi Guilles, a second-year international student at Thompson Rivers University (TRU). Currently, I am doing the Bachelor of Communication and Digital Journalism program with a focus on Public Relations. I was born and raised in the beautiful and tropical Philippines and moved to Qatar when I was 8 years old. After a decade of living in the Middle East, I decided to move here to Canada and continue my higher education here in Kamloops as I believe the change of environment is a stimulus to my personal and academic growth.

All my life, I have had an interest in media, film and television, and I am an active user of social media as well, hence why I am in the communications program. I believe in the idea that the technology and the media we consume daily are why and how the world is so interconnected and continuously evolving – so being educated about it at a university level has broadened my global perspective. Journalism is one of the valuable roles in information distribution and this is why I took up this course, not only because it is a requirement for my degree but learning how to communicate my message clearly to an audience and fulfill my purpose is a vital skill.
